GridEye Toolbox

The GridEye Toolbox is an intelligent synchrophasor-driven software platform developed to support real-time monitoring, protection, and operation of modern power systems. It has been jointly developed by Wise Wire Energy Solutions Limited and the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, combining industrial expertise with advanced research in power system analytics.

The toolbox has been deployed in the Cyprus power system in close collaboration with the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) and is currently used for the analysis of real Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data from transmission substations. Its deployment enables enhanced situational awareness, improved fault analysis, and data-driven decision support for transmission system operation.

The main window of the GridEye Toolbox provides access to four integrated tools, each addressing a key operational and protection challenge.

Live monitoring and PMU Data Gathering

This tool enables real-time visualization of PMU measurements from transmission substations, providing synchronized time-series data of voltage, current, and frequency. It supports both live monitoring and historical data extraction and is equipped with event detection algorithms that automatically identify power disturbances, such as voltage or frequency events, and store the corresponding PMU data for each event to facilitate further post-disturbance analysis.

Line Parameter Estimation

This tool estimates transmission line electrical parameters (resistance and reactance) over time using PMU data and data-driven techniques. It allows operators to track parameter variations due to operating conditions and environmental effects, supporting more accurate modeling and protection settings.

Adaptive Distance Protection Settings

This AI-based tool generates adaptive distance protection relay settings based on estimated line parameters and operating conditions. By dynamically updating protection zones, it improves protection accuracy (discrimination and selectivity) and robustness under changing operating conditions.

Grid Fault Analysis

This tool supports fault detection, classification, and precise fault location using synchronized PMU measurements. It enables fast post-fault analysis, supports improved disturbance investigation, and accelerates power outage restoration.
